Educational Importance of Pune

Pune is known as “Oxford of the East”. It is the home town for education and the history describes about its quality education in various areas.
Pune University
Pune University is one of the oldest universities in India that was established in 1948. Pune University is not only famous in India but also in whole world for its education.

When India got Independence in 1947, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru described Pune as “Oxford of the East” and since then it has maintained its standard in terms of education. The Deccan College was the first college started in Pune city in 1821.

There are almost all colleges in Pune city including engineering, medical, and linguistic and fine arts. You can get every course from Master’s degree to diploma. Some institutions like Symbiosis will allow you to study and work at the same time. Some colleges also provide options for night schools for particular subjects.

Many schools in Pune are run by Municipal Corporation or private trusts and individuals. People generally prefer private schools because of the better facilities. Some of the notable Marathi medium schools in Pune are Huzurpaga for Girls and New English School started by Bal Gangadhar Tilak.

Apart from education, Pune is also a good place to make career in India. It is one of the biggest IT hubs in India after Bangalore. Due to best education facilities provided by colleges and institutes, many students prefer Pune for education.
